As a former member of the Cabinet, Boris Johnson knows more than most about the UK’s relationship with Europe. So, when he stepped down as foreign secretary in March, it was largely seen as a gesture of respect from the politician to Prime Minister Theresa May as she negotiates Britain’s exit from the European Union.
But a photograph showing Johnson hosting a quiz in Downing Street last year has catapulted a different narrative about his role as part of May’s team onto the front pages in London.
The picture, taken in November last year, shows him reading aloud questions from a quiz book. The politician is wearing a Santa Claus hat and a woolly hat at the time.

It was reported that a mystery entrant in the quiz scored 100%. It has emerged that Johnson was instructed to prepare more questions for the quiz by the former chairman of the Downing Street bid for the prime minister’s office.
Why? Well, because Jeremy Corbyn, then the Labour Party leader, was invited to Downing Street to score 100% in a quiz the previous month. Corbyn was told: “Boris gets tens of thousands of votes every time he faces Jeremy, so you may want to up the ante!”
Now the Brexit war might be raging between politicians at home, but it’s the politicians on the other side of the Channel who have fired shots across the Brexit bow.
Last week in Brussels, the EU’s Michel Barnier hammered home his case for a “no deal” Brexit to prevail.
