Hurricanes claim goalie from Avalanche

The Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday claimed their fifth goaltender of the season after the Colorado Avalanche placed Jonas Johansson on waivers, per multiple reports.

Johansson was acquired by the Avs on draft day last year in exchange for a third-round pick in 2018. The 26-year-old stopped 42 of 44 shots in three appearances with Colorado this season, compiling a .937 save percentage and an 0.750 goals against average.

Johansson has also appeared in 89 games over the past three seasons for TPS Turku of the Finnish Elite League and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton of the American Hockey League. He began the 2011-12 season in the AHL, playing 14 games for the Penguins.

The Hurricanes have used 38 different goaltenders this season, and Carolina finished with the 10th worst defense in the NHL. Jakuh-Lo has appeared in five career NHL games.

Columbus claimed goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy off waivers from the Hurricanes on Thursday. Vasilevskiy was the seventh-string goaltender for Carolina last season.
