Melvin Gordon is off to a pretty solid start for the Denver Broncos.
But one of his four receptions so far this season hasn’t been very representative of his abilities as a running back.
The former Riverside Poly standout caught one deep pass in the Denver’s victory over the Detroit Lions last Sunday, the first of his career. But one-of-four might not cut it for a 6’0″, 230-pound running back.
So, the second-year pro from UC Davis decided to do something that you don’t see too often: he took it 56 yards.

But watch closely, this is the most vertical pass of the season so far. Gordon is wide open over the middle as he gets doubled, but only gets his feet tangled up on the play.
With the Broncos facing a 4th-and-goal from the 2, the 20-year-old sophomore was able to pick up the third down and score.
