The 24-year-old Seshadri, a double-graduate of California State University, Sacramento, was praised for her confidence and poise during a glittering ceremony on Saturday night.

“At the end of the day, this is something I thought I could do and I did,” Seshadri said. “I feel extremely privileged to hold this title.”

Miss Belgium Liza Schoenenberger was given the automatic title of Miss Universe Belgium 2020 but announced that she will not compete in the international competition due to health issues.

Originally from Belgium but now living in the Netherlands, Schoenenberger said in a statement that she has the flu and feels unwell.

“I am deeply sorry to pass on this title, but I would like to encourage my fellow women to be their best selves,” she said.
