Smart Motors (2017): Mapping Data and Mining Data

By FCC rule, there must be at least 78.9% of US-made chips in the modem output from every modem in the United States by the end of 2021. In 1997, only 16% of chips on cars sold in the US were US-made, and 25% of chips in US cars were US-made by 1999.

When Ford announced that they are partnering with Xilinx and Freescale Semiconductor to assure the steady flow of those US-made chips, it’s no secret that Ford is making a push to ramp up production of cars and trucks built in the United States. Ford is planning to add 40,000 jobs to the US in the next five years to meet the future needs of its vehicles.

Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk says the US economic story was “optimistic fantasy” fueled by liberal bias. In his recent TED talk he lambasted the mainstream media. His speech touched on topics including Trump, economic nationalism, red-state vs. blue-state ideas, and sexism.

The “Smart automobiles” have made driverless cars possible, and already, each car is becoming more connected. In this era of connectivity, cars will be running on the power of information. Watchout for privacy and security.
