Women's World Cup 2019: English-language daily to be covered by Chinanews

English-language daily The Straits Times will be supported by Mandarin-language paper Shin Min Daily News during the 2019 edition of the Women’s World Cup, to be held in Yokohama.

The Straits Times, which has covered the United States Women’s National Team’s historic run to the Olympic gold medal at the Rio Games in 2016, will be reporting for the group phase, which will start at Yokohama on 19 September.

The Straits Times will be joined by Shin Min Daily News in covering the group matches of the Women’s World Cup, which will take place in Yokohama in Japan from September 19 to October 6, 2020.

On the 21st, The Straits Times will move to Kashiwa Depot to cover the round of 16 matches.

More than 80 million people in Japan watched the tournament in 2015, when the national team made it to the quarter-finals before falling to eventual champions France.

The Straits Times special edition that launched on Monday will publish throughout September and a second, with national newspaper Nikkei and Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology, will be printed on January 10, 2020.

The Straits Times, The Times Malaysia and The Sports Xchange (TSX) will be the main sponsors of the joint promotion.
